The problem
Cashiers tap the same payment method on almost every sale, yet Odoo POS makes them choose it manually every single time. Worse, nothing stops a walk-in from being rung to a house account, or an account customer from being charged the wrong way — a control gap, not just a convenience one.

Set a default payment method per terminal and a preferred method per customer, and POS auto-selects the right one at checkout. Per-terminal default payment method
Set one default payment method per POS terminal. It is auto-selected on the payment screen the moment checkout starts, so cashiers stop tapping the same button on every sale.
Customer-preferred method auto-select
When a customer is identified on the order, their own preferred payment method takes priority over the terminal default — account customers get their usual method with zero taps.
Per-customer payment whitelist
Restrict which payment methods a customer may use in POS. A disallowed method is rejected with a clear, non-blocking warning instead of freezing the sale.
Visible Default badge
A Default badge on the payment screen shows the cashier at a glance whether the active method is the configured default or a manual override — no more silent mis-cashiering.
Real-time credit-limit warnings
Paying to a customer account that would exceed the customer's credit limit triggers an instant, non-blocking warning so the cashier can flag it before the sale completes.
Customer payment profile panel
The payment screen shows the identified customer's allowed methods and live credit balance in one panel, so the cashier never has to guess the policy.
Payment-method usage audit
A dedicated list and pivot view of payment-method usage gives managers a clear record for reconciliation and policy review, grouped by method or customer.

Configure the terminal
Open a POS configuration and pick a default payment method, then toggle customer-restriction enforcement and credit-limit warnings.
Set customer rules
On a contact's POS Payment Rules tab, choose their allowed methods, preferred method, and credit limit.
