Product Variant Description gives each product variant its own translatable text that flows automatically onto sales orders, invoices, purchase orders and delivery documents — no more manual overwrites, no more stale copy-paste.
The problem
Odoo builds a sales, purchase or delivery line from the product name plus a generic attribute string like “T-Shirt (Red, XL)”. When a variant needs handling instructions, regulatory text, a customer-facing blurb or a supplier reference, order desk staff end up overwriting the line by hand on every document — slow, inconsistent between colleagues, and easy to get wrong on the documents customers and vendors actually see.
The solution
Every variant gets its own translatable Variant Description that either inherits the template default or overrides it. The resolved text appends automatically to sales order lines, customer invoices, purchase orders, vendor bills and delivery/incoming pickings — with a live preview on the product form and an optional column on every document so you see exactly what will print before you send it.

Per-variant description field
Each product variant carries its own free-text description, separate from the template, so you stop creating duplicate products just to say something different.
Inherit or override, your choice
A clear per-variant toggle decides whether a variant follows the template default or uses its own text — no more guessing whether a description is stale or current.
Sales order & invoice coverage
The resolved description appends to sales order lines and carries straight through to the customer invoice — the two customer-facing documents distributors care about most.
Purchase order & vendor bill coverage
The same variant description also appends to purchase order and vendor bill lines, so purchasing agents send suppliers the exact wording every time.
Delivery & incoming picking coverage
Warehouse and receiving staff see the correct per-variant wording right on the picking operation, matching what the customer or supplier document says.
Bulk apply from the template
One button on the template pushes the default description to every variant and marks them as overriding — seed dozens of variants in a single click instead of editing them one by one.
Inline resolved-description preview
A read-only preview on the product form and an optional column on order lines show the exact text that will print — catch mistakes while building the order, not after it is sent.
Multi-select “Add Products” wizard
Add several product variants to a sales order in one step from a single dialog, instead of adding lines one at a time.
Translatable, language-aware text
Variant descriptions are fully translatable, so the correct wording resolves automatically to the customer's or supplier's language on every printed document.
How it works
Set the template default
Write the default Variant Description on the product template's dedicated tab.
Apply or override per variant
Bulk-apply the default to every variant, then override individual variants that need their own wording.
Build the order
Add variants one by one or use the multi-select wizard to add several at once.
Descriptions flow automatically
The resolved, translated text appears on the sales order, invoice, purchase order and delivery — no manual copy-paste.
