The problem
Imaging that lives in a separate PACS or shared drive forces lab staff to manually cross-reference case numbers between two systems. That creates transcription errors, orphaned files, slow report turnaround, and a compliance gap: no single audit trail proves who viewed a given patient's image and when.

Gallery-First Image Review
A kanban gallery opens first, showing thumbnail, patient, modality, and review state at a glance so reviewers scan a caseload visually instead of clicking through record forms one at a time.
Order & Patient Linked Filing
Every image is captured against a specific lab order, which in turn belongs to a patient, so orders, images, and patients stay cross-referenced automatically and orphaned files stop happening.
Structured Annotations
Reviewers attach notes, measurements, and markers directly to an image as structured, sequenced rows, keeping diagnostic findings tied to the exact evidence they describe.
Immutable Access & Audit Log
Every upload, view, annotation, review, and export is written to a dedicated log that cannot be edited or deleted, giving a tamper-evident trail for compliance audits.
Review State Machine
Images move through New, Under Review, Reviewed, and Archived stages with statusbar buttons and an assigned reviewer, so nothing is marked reviewed without someone accountable for it.
Automated Retention Policies
Configurable retention policies compute an archive date per image from its capture date and modality, and a daily scheduled job archives or purges images automatically once they expire.
Modality Tagging
Images and orders are tagged by modality — X-Ray, Ultrasound, Dermatoscopy, Microscopy Slide, Endoscopy, or DICOM/other file format — so labs can filter and report by capture type.
Role-Based Access Control
Lab Technician, Radiologist/Reviewer, and Lab Manager groups each get a scoped level of access, enforcing patient privacy at the group boundary without extra configuration.
Patient & Order Dashboards
Patient records show live image and order counts through smart buttons, and order forms list every attached image inline, keeping the full imaging history one click away.
How it works
Create the order
Register the patient and open a lab order with modality and ordering physician, generating a sequential reference automatically.
Capture the image
Technicians upload the image against that order; it is filed, thumbnailed, and logged in one step.
Review & annotate
A reviewer opens the gallery, adds notes or measurements, and moves the image through Under Review to Reviewed.
Audit & retain
Every action is logged automatically, and a retention policy archives or purges the image once it reaches its computed expiry date.

Images are tagged with a file format including DICOM so modality and format are recorded and filterable, but this module does not decode or render DICOM pixel data — it manages filing, review, and audit around the image file, not medical image processing.
