Turn message walls into a scannable channel
Expand or collapse any message in Discuss with one click, set a default per channel or account-wide, and keep your view exactly as you left it — every reload, every device.
The problem
Busy Discuss channels render every message at full height. Support, sales, and project teams scrolling through hundreds of posts have no way to compress the view, so finding a message or getting a quick overview of a discussion means constant, mechanical scrolling.
The solution
A per-message expand/collapse toggle plus a channel-wide toolbar switch between a compact, scannable preview and full content. Preferences are remembered per channel and per account, and survive reloads, logins, and device changes.

Per-message expand/collapse
Every message gets its own toggle, so you can compress a single long post or reopen it without touching the rest of the channel.
Compact and expanded modes
Switch the whole channel between a dense, scannable view and full content with one click in the toolbar.
Readable collapsed preview
A collapsed message still shows its author, timestamp, and a one-line snippet, so a compact channel stays a usable index instead of a list of blank rows.
Bulk expand or collapse all
One toolbar action resets the whole channel to fully expanded or fully compact, so entering a long channel does not mean clicking every message.
Customizable default mode
Choose whether channels open expanded or compact by default, matching how you personally like to work.
Per-channel memory
Each channel remembers its own display mode independently, so a busy support channel and a quiet announcements channel can behave differently.
Persistence across devices
Account and per-channel display settings are stored on the server, so your view is identical after a reload, a new login, or a different device.
Keyboard shortcuts
Expand or collapse the whole channel from the keyboard with Alt+Shift+E and Alt+Shift+C, with the hint shown right on the toolbar buttons.
Smart handling of attachments
Collapsed messages with attachments show a compact count badge instead of hiding them or leaving them full-size, so media-heavy channels compact cleanly.
How it works
Open a channel
Open any Discuss channel — the message display toolbar appears above the thread.
Pick a display mode
Click Expanded or Compact in the toolbar, or toggle any single message on its own.
Set your default
Use Set as my default to make Expanded or Compact your account-wide starting point.
Keep working
Your channel and account preferences are saved automatically and follow you across reloads and devices.
