The problem
Purchase orders get confirmed regardless of whether a department, project, or cost center has any budget left. Overspend surfaces only at month-end reconciliation, after bills post and goods have already arrived — too late for procurement or finance to prevent it.

Purchase Budget Limit checks every purchase order against its analytic budget at the moment of confirmation. Buyers see a live budget health indicator on the order, get graduated warnings before the limit, and are blocked outright when a budget is set to Restrict — with an audited override path for exceptions.

Create a budget scoped to an analytic account with a planned amount, period, enforcement mode, and warning threshold.
Confirm the budget

Confirm or override
Within-budget orders confirm normally; over-budget orders are blocked or warned per the budget's mode, with a governed override available to authorized users.
