Deliver projects in gated phases, not guesswork

Project By Phases adds a first-class delivery-phase container to Odoo Projects — separate from Kanban stages — with a visual timeline, progress tracking, milestone deadlines, and gate checklists that make phase completion a deliberate, enforced decision.

The problem

Odoo's native Kanban stages track task status, not delivery phases. Consulting engagements, construction builds, and implementation projects move through structured phases — Planning, Execution, Validation, Closure — that native Odoo has no first-class container for. Managers are left overloading stage columns, inventing naming conventions, or bolting on custom fields that never aggregate, report, or visualize cleanly, so nobody can answer a simple question: which phase is this project actually in, and can the next one open yet?

The solution

Project By Phases adds delivery phases as their own dimension, fully separate from workflow stages. Each phase carries a timeline, a live progress percentage, milestones, and a configurable gate checklist that a deliberate advance action must satisfy before the phase can close. Reusable phase templates apply a standard phase structure to one project or many in a single click, so every new engagement starts pre-structured.

Capabilities

Everything you need for phase-gated delivery

Every capability below is implemented in the module.

01

Delivery Phases as First-Class Containers

Create named phases — Planning, Execution, Validation, Closure — on any project, fully separate from Kanban workflow stages, so delivery structure and task status never get conflated.

02

Task-to-Phase Assignment

Assign every task to a phase, with a dedicated field and column on the task list, kanban, and form views so work is organized by delivery stage independently of its status.

03

Visual Phase Timeline

A dedicated calendar view lays phases out by start and end date, showing at a glance which phases run sequentially and which overlap — a true picture of the project shape.

04

Phase Progress Tracking

Each phase computes a live progress percentage and task count from its assigned tasks, so managers see advancement on a progress bar instead of counting tasks by hand.

05

Milestones with Deadlines

Attach milestones and deadlines to a phase, and see at a glance which phases are past their deadline with automatic overdue highlighting on the list view.

06

Gate Checklists, Soft or Hard Enforcement

Define entry/exit criteria per phase and mark a phase done through an explicit, gate-checked action. Choose per project whether unmet required criteria block completion or only post an advisory warning.

07

Reusable Phase Templates

Build a library of phase templates — each with its own phases, planned durations, default assignees, and gate criteria — ready to apply to any new project instead of rebuilding structure from scratch.

08

Bulk Template Application

Apply a phase template to one project or many at once from a single wizard, laying out phase dates sequentially from a chosen start date and optionally replacing any existing phases.

09

Automatic Task Field Population

Setting a task's phase automatically assigns the phase's default assignee, when the task has none, and applies the phase deadline to the task, cutting down repetitive data entry.

Workflow

How it works

1

Define Delivery Phases

Add phases to a project — or build a reusable template — naming each stage, setting dates, and choosing a default assignee for role routing.

2

Assign Tasks

Set each task's phase from the task form, list, or kanban view. Default assignee and deadline populate automatically from the phase.

3

Track Progress & Milestones

Watch phase progress bars and milestone deadlines update live as tasks close, with overdue phases flagged automatically.

4

Gate & Advance

Check off gate criteria, then mark the phase done. Hard enforcement blocks the action until required items are met; soft enforcement logs an advisory note and proceeds.

Questions

Frequently asked

No sales fog. If your question isn't here, email us and we'll answer it the same way.

No. Phases are a separate dimension from Kanban stages. Tasks keep their existing stage-based workflow; the phase field simply tags which delivery phase a task belongs to, so you get both views without losing either.
