Let your customers manage their own contacts — safely

Contact Portal Management turns Odoo's read-only customer portal into a full self-service address book — with permissions, validation, and approvals built in.

The problem

Odoo's native portal is largely read-only for contact data. When a customer needs a new delivery address, a new buyer added to the account, or a stale phone number fixed, they email the vendor and wait for someone to key it in — a steady stream of low-value tickets for the back office and a dead end for the buyer.

The solution

Contact Portal Management gives portal users a searchable address book with full create/edit/archive on their own account's contacts, visual address-type cards, and per-user permissions — while validation, duplicate detection, and an optional approval step keep the back office's data clean.

Capabilities

Everything a self-service address book needs

Every capability below is implemented in the module.

01

Full Portal Contact CRUD

Portal users create, edit, and archive their own account's child contacts directly from ``/my/contacts`` — no support ticket required.

02

Visual Address-Type Cards

Contact, invoice, delivery, and other addresses are chosen with labeled cards instead of a dropdown, and one address per type can be marked the default.

03

Searchable Address Book

Search by name or email, filter by address type, sort, and group the portal contact list — the native portal has none of this.

04

Per-User Permission Matrix

Grant each portal user a view / create / edit / delete permission set per company account, so multi-user accounts stay under control.

05

Validation & Duplicate Detection

Required fields and email format are checked at point of entry, and likely duplicates on the account are caught before they are saved.

06

Optional Approval Workflow

Turn on approvals to hold portal-submitted contacts as pending until internal staff approve or reject them with a reason.

07

Audit Trail on Every Contact

Every portal-managed contact records who submitted it and when, with an internal chatter note raised for review.

08

Live Sync to the Back Office

Portal changes act on the same ``res.partner`` records the back office uses — no shadow data set, no separate sync step.

09

No-Code Portal Menu Toggle

Enable the Contacts card on My Account, the approval policy, and the duplicate-match rule all from General Settings — no developer needed.

Workflow

How it works

1

Grant portal access

An admin assigns each portal user a view / create / edit / delete permission grant for their company account.

2

Manage contacts from the portal

The portal user adds or edits contacts at ``/my/contacts``, choosing an address type with the visual cards.

3

Validate on submit

Email format and required fields are checked, and likely duplicates on the account are flagged before saving.

4

Approve & sync

If approvals are on, staff review pending contacts; otherwise the change lands in the back office immediately.

No, it builds on top of it. The native billing/delivery address forms still work; this module adds a searchable address book, full CRUD with visual address-type cards, per-user permissions, and an optional approval workflow that the native portal does not have.
