The problem
Odoo does not stop two products from sharing the same internal reference or the same name. Barcode scanning, picking, purchasing, and reporting all assume one code maps to one product — so a silent duplicate corrupts stock counts, sends pickers to the wrong shelf, and skews margin reports. The damage is usually found only after a bulk import or a busy warehouse day, when cleanup is already manual and expensive.
The solution
Unique Product Name & Internal Reference enforces uniqueness on both fields at save time and names the exact conflicting product in the error, so nothing ambiguous ever reaches the database. It fills in missing references automatically, keeps a full audit trail of every reference change, and gives administrators a one-click scan to find and fix the duplicates already hiding in the catalog.

Unique Internal Reference
Blocks any product from saving with an internal reference already used elsewhere, including archived products, so a code can never point to two records.
Unique Product Name
The same duplicate-blocking constraint applies to product names, closing the second most common cause of picking and ordering mistakes.
Names the Exact Conflict
The save-blocked error states the duplicate value and identifies the other product that already holds it, so users can jump straight to the conflict instead of hunting for it.
Auto-Generated References
New products saved with no internal reference are given one automatically from a configurable prefix and sequence — existing references are never touched.
Per-Category Prefixes
Set an optional reference prefix on any product category so auto-generated codes follow your own catalog conventions by product family.
Reference Change History
Every internal reference change is logged with the old code, the new code, who made it, and when — visible from a stat button right on the product form.
Catalog Duplicate Scan
Scan the entire existing catalog for reference and name duplicates on demand, optionally including archived products, and get a grouped summary of every conflict found.
One-Click Reference Fix
Resolve found reference duplicates in one click: every conflicting product but the one you keep is renumbered to a fresh, unique reference. Name conflicts are listed for manual review, since renaming a product is never done automatically.
Fully Configurable
Every rule — reference enforcement, name enforcement, case sensitivity, whitespace trimming, auto-generation, and history tracking — is a toggle in Settings, so the module fits your process instead of the other way round.
How it works
Configure the rules
Open Settings and switch on the checks you need: reference uniqueness, name uniqueness, case sensitivity, auto-generation, and history tracking.
Scan the catalog
Run the Duplicate Scan wizard to find every existing reference and name conflict before enforcement starts blocking new saves.
Fix what it finds
Auto-fix duplicate references in one click, and review the flagged duplicate names manually before your catalog is fully clean.
Stay clean going forward
New products get auto-generated references, every future change is logged, and any attempted duplicate is blocked with a clear, specific error.
