The problem
Every incoming Discuss message forces open a small chat window in the corner of the screen, no matter what you are doing. For people who message often, or who present and screen-share their Odoo session, that means constant interruptions and messages flashing into view in front of an audience. Muting notifications kills the unread badge along with the popups — there is no way to keep the awareness and lose only the window.
The solution
This app gives every user a personal popup mode — always show, always suppress, or suppress only during chosen focus hours — while admins set sane defaults per role. Priority conversations can still be whitelisted to always pop up, an optional sound and tab-title alert replaces the visual interruption, and the unread badge plus full message history never disappear.

Per-user popup modes
Each person chooses Always show popups, Always suppress popups, or Suppress during focus hours — from their own Chat Popup Preferences screen.
Focus-hours scheduling
Set a start and end hour and popups suppress automatically inside that window, then resume outside it — no manual toggling required.
Priority conversation whitelist
Mark specific conversations to always show a popup, even while suppression is on, so an escalation channel or your manager's messages never get missed.
Role-based defaults
Administrators configure a default popup mode per user role or group, so new team members start with the right behaviour automatically.
Global fallback default
A single setting in General Settings > Discuss controls the popup mode for anyone without a personal or role-based preference.
Optional sound and tab alert
Turn on an out-of-focus sound and tab-title flash as a quiet stand-in for the popup, so you still notice a new message without it stealing the screen.
No stacked popups
Several messages arriving together never pile up into a wall of windows — suppressed threads stay silent and allowed threads still respect Discuss's normal window limit.
Messages always stay accessible
Suppressing the popup never hides a message — every conversation and its full history remain exactly where they always were, in the Discuss panel.
Unread badge preserved
The unread counter keeps counting even when popups are off, so you always know a message is waiting without a window forcing itself onto your screen.
How it works
Open your preferences
Go to Chat Popups > Chat Popup Preferences and pick a popup mode: always show, always suppress, or focus-hours only.
Whitelist what matters
Add any conversation you never want to miss to the always-popup whitelist, even while suppression is active.
Set the safety net
Enable the optional sound and tab-title alert so you are notified the moment a message arrives, without a window appearing.
Let admins set the baseline
Managers configure role defaults and a global fallback in General Settings, so every new user starts with sensible behaviour.
