The problem
Odoo's native company switcher lets any user with access to multiple companies activate any combination of them at any time. For finance, franchise, and professional-services teams that is a governance risk — cross-company data leakage, records posted to the wrong entity, and consolidated views that specific roles should never see — with no built-in way to lock a user down or prove what happened afterward.
The solution
Restrict Multi Company Selection adds a policy layer on top of the native switcher. Set a single-company, limited-count, or unlimited rule per group or per user, and the app blocks disallowed selections in the dropdown and validates them again on the server, so restriction is enforced, not just suggested. Every switch is logged, and the dropdown shows each user their scope and active policy.

Per-group restriction policies
Create a policy per security group — accounting capped at one company, operations at two, executives unlimited — and the most restrictive matching policy always wins.
Per-user overrides
Override the group policy for an individual user when a role-level rule does not fit — the user-level setting always takes precedence.
Real enforcement, not cosmetics
Selections beyond the limit are blocked directly in the company switcher, and every apply is re-validated server-side, so the restriction cannot be bypassed from the client.
Global default policy
Set an organization-wide default mode and limit from Settings, so every user is covered even before a group or user-level policy is defined.
Company switch audit log
Every switch is recorded with the user, the companies activated, and the policy in effect at that moment — giving compliance teams evidence, not just a rule.
Access-scope header
The switcher dropdown shows each user how many companies they can access and which policy applies, so scope is visible before they click.
Warn before wide switches
Configure a threshold that triggers a warning notification before a user activates a large number of companies at once.
Single-company radio mode
Users restricted to one company get radio-button behavior in the switcher — selecting a new company automatically clears the old one.
Built on the native switcher
Layers on top of Odoo's own search and select-all switcher UX instead of replacing it, so there is nothing new for users to learn.
