The problem
POS terminals sit in high-traffic checkout lanes and stay logged into an open session for an entire shift. When a cashier steps away, anyone nearby can process refunds, void sales, open the drawer or ring a sale under someone else’s name — and native Odoo POS offers no lock, only a slow full logout that nobody bothers with.
The solution
Cerevantix POS Lock Screen adds a one-click lock button and a configurable auto-lock on inactivity, both built into the POS itself. A clear full-screen overlay shows the terminal is locked and by whom; PIN or password unlocks it, failed attempts are throttled, and every lock, unlock and override is logged for the manager.

One-click manual lock
A Lock button sits right in the POS navbar so a cashier can secure the terminal in a single tap before stepping away, with the open order left exactly as it was.
Automatic inactivity lock
Locks the terminal on its own after a chosen idle period, with configurable presets from 1 to 30 minutes, so protection never depends on a cashier remembering.
PIN unlock, verified server-side
Cashiers unlock with a fast numeric PIN. The PIN is checked on the server and is never shipped to the browser, so it cannot be read from the client.
Password unlock alternative
Users who prefer their Odoo password over a POS PIN can unlock with it instead, covering both authentication habits on the same terminal.
Unmistakable locked-state screen
A full-screen overlay makes the locked state obvious, showing exactly which user holds the terminal so managers and customers can read the state at a glance.
Brute-force lockout
Repeated invalid PIN or password attempts trigger a temporary cooldown, warning the user and blocking casual guessing at the terminal.
Supervisor override
An admin-selectable policy lets an authorized POS manager unlock a terminal when the original cashier is unavailable, so a lane never stalls.
Proactive PIN setup guidance
Users without an unlock PIN are guided to set one at the right moment instead of hitting a reactive error mid-shift.
Lock and unlock audit trail
Every lock, unlock, failed attempt and override is logged with the terminal, user, actor and timestamp, browsable from a manager-only History menu.
How it works
Enable and configure
Under Point of Sale settings, turn on locking, choose the unlock policy, the auto-lock timeout preset, max failed attempts and lockout cooldown.
Set an unlock PIN
Each cashier sets a personal PIN from their Preferences, or relies on their Odoo password; anyone missing a PIN is guided to set one.
Lock the terminal
A tap on the navbar button, or the configured idle timeout, locks the terminal instantly while the current order stays exactly as it was.
Unlock and review
Enter the PIN or password (or have a supervisor override) to resume; every lock, unlock and override lands in the manager-only Lock History.
