Inventory adjustments, valued at your cost, not just the system’s

Override the standard or computed cost on any inventory adjustment, preview the financial impact before you confirm, and keep a dated audit trail of every custom-cost decision.

The problem

Odoo’s native inventory adjustment always values changes at the product’s standard or FIFO/AVCO-computed cost. When a count is actually a damaged write-down, a returned item re-entering at a negotiated value, or an inter-company transfer at a special price, that default is wrong — and teams end up making manual journal entries that break the link between the physical adjustment and its financial record.

The solution

Enter a custom unit cost directly on the adjustment line. The stock move, its journal entry, and the resulting valuation all follow that cost automatically, while you see the standard-vs-custom variance and total value impact on screen before you confirm anything.

Capabilities

Full control over adjustment valuation

Every capability below is implemented in the module.

01

Custom unit cost per line

Override the standard or computed cost on any inventory-adjustment line with a clearly-labelled custom unit cost, right in the editable adjustment list.

02

Journal entries at your cost

The accounting entry generated for the adjustment reflects the custom cost you entered, keeping a clean audit trail between the physical change and its financial impact.

03

Valuation updated to match

Stock valuation reflects the manually-entered cost, so stock-on-hand value stays accurate after the adjustment — not just the quantities.

04

Cost-impact preview

See the total valuation change live as you type — before you confirm anything — instead of finding out the financial effect after the adjustment is posted.

05

Cost variance report

A dedicated report compares standard cost against your entered cost for every adjustment, so controllers can see how far — and why — an adjustment deviates from system cost.

06

Dated adjustment history

Every applied custom-cost adjustment is logged with product, location, quantity, standard cost, custom cost, and date — ready for month-end review or audit.

07

Bulk custom-cost mode

Apply corrected costs across many products at once from a single wizard, with each line still showing its own quantity, cost, variance, and value impact.

08

Inline validation

Negative unit costs are blocked outright, and a zero-cost write-off triggers an on-screen warning, so mistakes are caught before they hit the books.

09

FIFO/AVCO guidance

Inline, contextual help explains exactly how a manual cost behaves under the product’s valuation method, so you understand the outcome before you confirm.

Workflow

How it works

1

Start an adjustment

Open the standard Odoo inventory-adjustment list and count as usual.

2

Enter a custom cost

Toggle Use Custom Cost on a line and type the unit cost; variance and value impact update live.

3

Apply

Confirm the adjustment; the stock move and journal entry post at your entered cost automatically.

4

Review & audit

Check the Cost Adjustment Variance report, or use the bulk wizard for large counts.

Questions

Frequently asked

No sales fog. If your question isn't here, email us and we'll answer it the same way.

No. The custom cost values only that specific adjustment’s stock move, journal entry, and valuation. The product’s standard price and its AVCO running average are left unchanged.

Inventory Adjustment With Cost Price

Value an inventory adjustment at a custom unit cost line by line, with a cost-impact preview and journal entries posted at that cost — instead of a manual entry that breaks the link to the physical count.
