Turn meter readings into maintenance action not just a log
Track odometer, engine-hour, cycle and kWh meters on every asset, validate every reading as it comes in, and let Odoo raise the preventive maintenance request automatically the moment usage crosses a threshold — with a forecasted due date so nothing catches your team by surprise.
The problem
Equipment serviced on a fixed calendar is either maintained too early, wasting labor and parts, or too late, risking breakdowns and safety incidents. The real trigger for service is usage — odometer miles, engine hours, page counts, kWh — but Odoo’s Maintenance app has no first-class way to capture readings, validate them, or turn a crossed threshold into action.
The solution
Usage-Based Equipment Maintenance adds configurable meters to every asset, validates each reading as it is entered, and automatically raises a preventive maintenance request the moment accumulated usage crosses its threshold — with a forecasted next-service date so your team plans ahead instead of reacting.
Everything a usage-based maintenance program needs
Every capability below is implemented in the module.
Multiple meters per asset
Track odometer, engine hours, page counts, cycle counts, kWh or any custom unit — each asset can carry several independent meters, each driving its own service rule.
Usage-threshold maintenance triggers
Configure a threshold per meter — for example every 500 engine hours — and the module raises a preventive maintenance request automatically the moment accumulated usage crosses it.
Next-service forecast
Based on the recent usage rate, each meter projects the date it will next hit its threshold, turning the view from a historical log into a planning tool.
Reading validation
Every new reading is checked against the prior value and an expected range, rejecting regressions and implausible jumps before bad data reaches the maintenance basis.
Overdue-reading alerts
Meters that have gone stale are flagged "Data Needed", with a fleet-wide view and a daily reminder so no meter is silently forgotten.
Reading entry inside the request
Technicians can record a meter value directly from the maintenance request form, removing the context switch of logging readings elsewhere.
Photo upload on readings
Attach a photo of the physical gauge to any reading as proof or backup, kept alongside the timestamped value history.
Configurable meter types
Define your own meter types — odometer, engine hours, page count, cycle count, kWh — each with its own unit of measure, name and code.
Install-time role templates
Granular read/create/edit/delete permissions ship with default role templates applied at install, so teams can grant the right access immediately without per-user setup.
How it works
Configure meters
Define meter types and add one or more meters to each piece of equipment, each with its own service threshold and trigger action.
Record readings
Technicians log timestamped readings — directly on the meter, or inline while handling a maintenance request — with validation catching bad entries.
Track usage and forecast
Each meter shows its current value, last reading date and a forecasted next-service date based on the recent usage rate.
Act automatically
When accumulated usage crosses the configured threshold, the module raises a preventive maintenance request so the team knows to act right away.

No. It extends the standard Maintenance app in place — your existing equipment, requests and teams are untouched. Usage meters, readings and threshold triggers are added on top.
