Close the books on foreign currency revaluation

Retranslate open foreign-currency receivables, payables and bank balances to the closing rate in one guided run, post a balanced entry with automatic reversal, and keep a full line-by-line audit trail.

The problem

Multi-currency receivables, payables and bank balances have to be retranslated to the closing rate every period end — a manual, spreadsheet-driven chore that is slow, error-prone, and leaves auditors with generic, unexplained exchange-difference entries.

The solution

Foreign Currency Revaluation computes the closing-rate adjustment for every open AR, AP and bank balance in one guided run, posts a single balanced entry with automatic next-period reversal, and keeps a full line-by-line audit trail back to the source document.

Capabilities

Everything month-end revaluation needs

Every capability below is implemented in the module.

01

All buckets, one run

Revalue receivables, payables and bank/cash balances together, or select only the buckets and currencies you need for this close.

02

Only genuinely open exposure

Fully reconciled lines and non-monetary accounts such as inventory, fixed assets and equity are automatically excluded from every run.

03

Line-level audit trail

Every adjustment line records its currency, account, rate snapshot, partner and computed gain or loss — ready to export and hand to an auditor.

04

Hard link to source documents

Each line links straight back to the invoice, bill or journal item it came from, so reviewers can trace every adjustment to its origin in one click.

05

Missing rate? It stops, not guesses

When no exchange rate is on file for a currency and date, the run flags the line and blocks posting until a manual rate is entered and recomputed.

06

Per-currency gain/loss mapping

Map dedicated gain and loss accounts per currency and company, with a company-wide default for every currency you have not mapped.

07

One balanced entry, auto-reversed

Posting books a single balanced journal entry to your chosen journal and automatically creates the reversal on the next period's open date.

08

Draft, recompute, lock

Preview results before committing: recompute as rates change, reset a draft run, and rely on idempotent, locked posting so a period can never be revalued twice.

09

Optional monthly scheduler

An opt-in scheduled action prepares a draft run every month for review, so month-end revaluation never gets forgotten — nothing posts without a human.

Workflow

How it works

1

Configure defaults

Set the FX journal and default gain/loss accounts in Settings, with optional per-currency account mapping for finer control.

2

Start a run

Create a revaluation, pick the valuation date, the buckets (AR/AP/Bank) and the currencies to include.

3

Compute & review

Click Compute to see every adjustment line with its rate, booked balance and revalued amount; resolve any missing rates and recompute.

4

Post the entry

Post the balanced journal entry in one click; the next-period reversal is created automatically if auto-reverse is enabled.
